YouTube: Now with subtitles… kinda

March 30, 2010

YouTube recently released the closed caption beta for videos. This uses speech recognition to create subtitles for your videos.

My Avatar review video from back in December was been run though the speech recognition and now was subtitles, but the problem is, for the most part they don’t fit with what I’m actually saying.

Most lines end up as like the one above. Which shows about the same understanding of the English language as your average 4chan user.
Like I said, it’s currently in beta, so it should get better, but really, here’s a thought, why not let the person who made the video write the captions? The ‘tuber knows what was said so they can caption it properly.
My challenge now is to make a video where the captions match perfectly.
